Why build a Money Map?

Most people know their balance. Few know how much of it is actually free. Find out in three minutes.

Some of your money is already spoken for

Rent, bills, a holiday you're saving for, your pension. Money Map adds it all up so you can see what's actually free.

Your goals share the same income

See your emergency fund, holidays and savings side by side, and whether your income covers them all.

Things change over time

Goals finish, debts end and pay changes. See when that happens and what it does to your month.

It takes minutes

No tracking, no bank connection, no spreadsheet. Rough numbers give you a useful picture straight away.

How it works

Three short steps. Round numbers are fine.

1

What comes in

Your monthly income, any bonus, and changes you already know about.

2

What it goes on

Everyday costs, plus what you set aside for goals, savings and investing.

3

Your Money Map

Your monthly position, what's on track, and when things change.

A clearer way to look at your money

Group what you spend and save by what it's for, then see what's left.

Frequently asked questions

Is Money Map free?

Yes. It's free to use, with no sign-up and no card details.

Do I need to connect my bank account?

No. Money Map is a quick guide, not a tracker. You type in your own figures, and approximate amounts are fine wherever you're not sure. Even rough numbers are enough to show what your income is already committed to, and to uncover gaps or spare money you might not have noticed.

What do I need before I start?

Just a rough idea of your monthly take-home pay and what you spend. A recent bank statement can help, but estimates are fine.

How long does it take?

About three minutes. You can change any number later.

How accurate is it?

It's as accurate as the figures you enter. Round numbers give a useful picture, and you can update them whenever things change.

Where is my information stored?

Your figures are stored in this browser, on this device, and are never sent to us. We count visits without cookies. If you agree to analytics, we also collect information about how the site is used, with your figures hidden. Feedback you choose to send is stored by us. You can delete your Money Map at any time with Start again.

Can I come back to it later?

Yes. Your Money Map is saved on this device, so you can open it again in the same browser and edit anything.

How is it different from a budgeting app?

Budgeting apps track what you've already spent, usually through your bank. Money Map starts from your plan: what your income is committed to, what's left, and when that changes.

How are bonuses handled?

They're kept out of your monthly figures, because they aren't guaranteed. You can plan where your next bonus goes and see how it brings your goals forward.

Is this financial advice?

No. Money Map shows the figures you enter and some general guidance. For advice on your situation, speak to a regulated financial adviser. MoneyHelper offers free, impartial guidance.

A quick map of where your money goes, so you can close any gap or put the extra to work.

Build a safety buffer, enjoy more today, or invest for the future.
